Showrunners also kept insisting on the series being an anthology like, say, Black Mirror. Season 1 was very dissatisfying with that thought in mind. After watching season 2, I don't think Castle Rock should go the way of an anthology series, especially since they've brought back Skarsgård. Now the narratives are tying together to create one story.
The last season of LOST more or less explained the series, but it could have been much much much better. I think they just bit off more than they could creatively chew so to speak. Castle Rock seems to have gone that same route, although maybe subsequent seasons will shed more light into some of the unexplained storylines.
